I just read a negative review of the sound quality of this set.I could not disagree more.Yes the capitol 2fer remasters sound better.(If you're Really a fan you own those too).But,if you want all the songs in one package and a literate re-telling of their story(by David Leaf)then you need look no further.I bought this used for about 20 bucks and I couldn't be happier.Buy This.GM
The product was received quickly and was in A+ condition. Now if he is singing, outside of church, he is singing Beach Boys. Thanks Amazon. My seven year old saved up his money so we could go in half-zies on this box set. He doesn't quite get disk 3 & 4, that is some of their out there stuff.
At the same time, this boxed set has some great 5 star musical content. You can easily tell the inferior quality of the recordings on this boxed set if you compare the same songs from the later remasters on 'Sounds of Summer' and 'Warmth of the Sun'. So I'll give it 3-1/2 stars, since musical content trumps sound quality.I hope someday soon Capitol records will try to right the wrongs they have done to music lovers who paid for these very unmusical, sucked out recordings by putting the fidelity back into this boxed set. The sound quality of this box set is extremely disappointing- Frank C.'s 1 star review is spot on. I really hoped he was wrong when I ordered this set, but sadly, he's right.Oh, well.
This box set has many songs never released to the public I believe. Personally, I do not have the high end equipment I didn't mind if there were songs I had never heard before. Some of the other reviews are correct. If you want the hits, plus some, and the recording method doesn't bother you then this is good buy. I am glad I bought this box set and enjoy it. If your an audiophile and want the original recordings in their original sound you may not find it here. Also, if your wanting to find only the Beach Boy hits you remember you might want to buy one of the Greatest Hits albums.
Recommended for any Beach Boys casual or die hard fan. I haven't even listen to all of the CDs, but what I have heard brings back great memories of what I couldn't find anywhere else on CD. It's a great collection of work along with behind the scenes studio recordings.
